Elvis Presley's ex-girlfriend is expressing her heartbreak following his daughter Lisa Marie Presley's death.
Following the singer's death on Jan. 12 at age 54 from a possible heart attack, Linda Thompson, who dated the King of Rock and Roll in the ‘70s, shared an emotional post on social media.
Alongside a photo of Elvis holding a young Lisa Marie, Linda wrote on Instagram Jan. 12, "My heart is too heavy for words."
The heartbreaking tribute came hours after the songwriter showed her support for Lisa Marie following the news of her hospitalization. In the post, she shared a series of throwbacks of herself and Elvis with Lisa Marie during the ‘70s.
"I am fervently praying for someone I have always held so near & dear to my heart @lisampresley," Linda, who shares son Brody Jenner with ex Caitlyn Jenner, wrote. "Please join me in sending out your best thoughts, love, prayers, and well wishes for a full and speedy recovery for her. Thank you…"
Elvis and Linda began dating in 1972, following his split from wife Priscilla Presley, with whom he shared Lisa Marie. The two went their separate ways four years later in 1976, but remained friends until Elvis' death the following year in August 1977.
Hours after news of Lisa Marie's hospitalization, Priscilla confirmed her daughter's passing in an emotional statement.
"It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us," Priscilla told People on Jan. 12. "She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment."
Lisa Marie is survived by her daughter Riley Keough with ex-husband Danny Keough and her 14-year-old twins Harper and Finley with ex-husband Michael Lockwood.
